Dad'S Apple Pie
- pastry for double crust pie
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/3 c. flour
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. ground allspice
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 12 c. thinly sliced, peeled cooking apples
- 3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- milk and sugar
- Preheat oven to 375u0b0.
- Prepare 2 crusts.
- Put one in a 12 x 7 1/2 x 2-inch baking dish.
- Cut slits in other crust; set aside. Combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, allspice and salt (for juicy pie, use 1/4 cup flour).
- Add sugar mixture to apples; toss to coat fruit.
- Turn into baking dish (apples will mound higher than sides).
- Dot with butter.
- Carefully place pastry atop apples; flute to the sides but not over the edge.
- Brush with milk; sprinkle with sugar.
- Cover edge of pie with foil.
- Bake in oven for 25 minutes.
- Remove foil.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes more.
