Bread Dumplings With Bacon Recipe
- 200 gm bacon
- 200 gm white bread
- 10 gm yeast
- 3 1/2 c. flour, plain
- 3 1/2 c. lowfat milk
- 1 x egg salt
- Cube bacon finely and heat slowly in moderate oven.
- Cut bread into cubes, mix with melted bacon, put into oven and brown to a golden brown colour.
- Set aside to cold.
- Mix yeast, flour and some lowfat milk.
- When the mix rises, add in the remaining hot lowfat milk, egg and salt.
- Mix thoroughly.
- add in the browned bread to the dough, mix once again and leave to rise.
- Bring salted water to the boil.
- Form the dough with hands moistened in hot water; put them into boiling water and cook for about 15 min in covered pot.
- Place the cooked dumplings in one larger baking tin.
- Pour over with some boiling water, bake in oven till they rise.
- Pour over with tomato sauce or possibly sprinkle with diced bacon and melted butter.
- Serve on their own or possibly as a garnish with grilled and roast meats or possibly soups.
