Homemade Vanilla Extract

  1. To make homemade vanilla extract you simply put a couple of split vanilla beans in a glass jar, pour vodka over it and cover tightly.
  2. Let cure for 6 weeks or longer.
  3. Once or twice a week shake your jar/jars of homemade extract.
  4. Store in a dark cool spot.
  5. If your vanilla beans are longer than your jar is tall, cut the beans in half and then split them.
  6. For a half-pint mason jar, use 3 to 4 vanilla beans.
  7. The more beans you add, the stronger your vanilla will be.
  8. Once your extract has cured, you can leave your beans in the jar as you use it.
  9. When your jar starts getting low, simply add more vodka.
