Deep Dish Apple Dumplings Recipe
- Triple pie crust
- 7 Granny or possibly Pippin apples, peeled and cored
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 4 tbsp. butter
- 1 c. boiling water
- Sugar, cinnamon, lowfat milk (topping garnish)
- Make pie crust, divide in half and roll out to fit a 9 x 13 inch baking pan, overlapping sides.
- Slice apples and mix with lemon juice.
- Lay in pastry lined pan.
- Put cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, butter and water in saucepan and bring to a boil.
- Remove from heat.
- Roll out the other half of pastry for top of apples.
- Pour liquid over apples.
- Lay pastry on top, flute edges and brush with lowfat milk.
- Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon top of crust.
- Bake in preheated 375 degree oven for 35-40 min or possibly till apples seem tender.
- Serve in bowl with ice cream or possibly lowfat milk.
