Classic Meat Lasagna
- 1 c. chopped onion
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 Tbsp. Crisco shortening or Crisco oil
- 1 lb. ground beef round
- 2 (14 1/2 oz. each) cans no salt added stewed tomatoes
- 1 (6 oz.) can no salt added tomato paste
- 2 tsp. dried basil leaves
- 1 tsp. dried oregano leaves
- 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 2 c. low-fat (1%) cottage cheese
- 1/2 c. grated Parmesan cheese, divided
- 1/4 c. chopped fresh parsley
- 8 oz. wide lasagna noodles
- 1 c. (4 oz.) shredded low moisture part-skim Mozzarella cheese, divided
- Saute onion and garlic in Crisco shortening or Crisco oil in large skillet on medium heat until soft.
- Push to one side of skillet.
- Add meat.
- Crumble and cook.
- Drain, if necessary.
- Add tomatoes.
- Break into smaller pieces.
- Add tomato paste, basil, oregano, sugar and pepper.
- Simmer 30 minutes.
