Easy French Bread

  1. Combine flour, sugar and salt in large bowl.
  2. Add yeast and water until dough is soft.
  3. Cover and let rise in place (85u0b0) free from drafts for 30 minutes (until doubled).
  4. Turn dough onto heavily floured surface.
  5. Knead to smooth and elastic (5 minutes). Divide in half.
  6. Shape into 2 oval loaves.
  7. Fold over lengthwise and flatten with hands.
  8. Roll each with hands into a 15 x 2-inch loaf.
  9. Twist and place loaves on greased pans.
  10. Brush with butter. Cover and let rise in warm place (85u0b0), free from drafts, until doubled.
  11. Bake at 400u0b0 for 40 minutes, until loaves sound hollow.
