Baked Cake Donuts

  1. Preheat oven to 400F (200C).
  2. Lightly oil or grease donut pan(s).
  3. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg and salt.
  4. Stir in the buttermilk, beaten eggs, vanilla extract and melted butter.
  5. Beat together until well blended.
  6. Using a pastry bag or a spoon, fill each donut cup about three-quarters full.
  7. Bake 8 to 9 minutes, until donuts spring back when lightly touched.
  8. Cool for 5 minutes in pan before removing to wire rack.
