Shredded Wheat Pastry Recipe
- 3 c. sugar
- 1 3/4 c. water
- 2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
- 1 pound sweet butter, melted
- 1 1/2 lbs. Shredded Wheat crumbs
- 3 c. finely minced walnuts
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- Combine sugar, water and lemon juice in saucepan.
- Bring to boil, simmer, uncovered 15 min.
- Cold at room temperature.
- Butter a 9"x13"x2" baking pan.
- Spread half of Shredded Wheat in bottom of pan.
- Drizzle half of butter over it.
- Mix walnuts and spices and sprinkle over buttered wheat layer.
- Spread remaining Shredded Wheat over nuts.
- Drizzle with remaining butter.
- Bake in 350 degree oven for 45 min.
- Remove from oven, pour syrup, honey or possibly maple syrup over warm pastry.
- When cold, cut into diamonds.
- May cut in half.
