Biscuits
- 8 cups self-rising flour
- 4 tablespoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- 1 13 cups solid shortening
- 3 1/4 cups buttermilk
- Melted butter
- Heat oven to 450 degrees.
- Sift first 4 ingredients together.
- Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add milk all at once.
- Mix briefly with fork to form soft ball.
- Place dough on lightly floured surface, rolling or patting into rough circle about 1/2 inch thick.
- Using 3-inch biscuit cutter, cut into 36 rounds.
- Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 10 minutes.
- Brush tops with butter and bake 3 to 5 minutes longer.
