Bonnie's Hot Tamale Pie Recipe
- White corn meal
- 1 pound grnd beef
- 1 med. onion, minced
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 can minced green chilies
- 1 can tomato paste
- 1 c. water
- Chili pwdr
- Mix white corn meal, salt, and boiling water as if making warm water cornbread.
- Make sufficient to thickly cover the bottom and sides of your casserole dish, also to cover the top of the pie.
- Brown grnd beef with onion and garlic.
- Add in green chilies, tomato paste and water.
- Add in chili pwdr, salt and pepper to taste.
- Pat corn meal mix onto the bottom and sides of a well-oiled large casserole dish.
- Leave sufficient to seal the top of the pie.
- Pour meat mix into center of corn meal.
- Spoon remaining corn meal mix on top of pie.
- Wet your fingers and smooth corn meal mix till the meat is completely encased in corn meal.
- Coat the top of the pie with a small amount of oil.
- Bake in 350 degree oven until corn meal is browned.
- Slice and serve with catsup and warm sauce if you like.
