West Virginia Molasses Ginger Cookies Recipe
- 1/3 c. molasses
- 1 c. shortening (butter flavor Crisco)
- 1 c. sugar (plus some for rolling)
- 1 egg
- 2 c. flour
- 2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves, grnd
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In large bowl cream sugar, shortening; add in molasses, egg, mix till well blended.
- In small bowl sift together dry ingredients.
- Add in gradually to shortening mix till well blended.
- Refrigeratemix at least 1 hour.
- When well chilled, with hands make 1 inch balls of dough and roll in sugar.
- Bake immediately on ungreased cookie sheet 10-12 min or possibly till centers look dry but not hard.
- Cookies should be flexible, not crisp.
