West Virginia Molasses Ginger Cookies Recipe

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In large bowl cream sugar, shortening; add in molasses, egg, mix till well blended.
  3. In small bowl sift together dry ingredients.
  4. Add in gradually to shortening mix till well blended.
  5. Refrigeratemix at least 1 hour.
  6. When well chilled, with hands make 1 inch balls of dough and roll in sugar.
  7. Bake immediately on ungreased cookie sheet 10-12 min or possibly till centers look dry but not hard.
  8. Cookies should be flexible, not crisp.
