Candy Cane Cookies Recipe
- 1 c. Shortening (or possibly margarine)
- 1 c. Sifted confectioners sugar
- 1 x Egg
- 1 1/2 tsp Almond extract
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- 2 1/2 c. Gold medal wondra flour (cake flour)
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Red food coloring Granulated sugar
- My Aunt made these and they are one of my favorite Christmas cookies.
- They are delicate in flavor and usually a real winner.
- Preheat oven to 375F.
- Mix first 5 ingredients together.
- Sift flour and salt together.
- Stir 1/2 of flour mix into shortening mix.
- Work remaining flour into mix with hands till the dough holds together.
- Divide dough in half.
- Mix 1/2 of dough with red food coloring.
- Healthy pinch off a bit of white dough and roll into a long cigarette, healthy pinch off a bit of red dough and roll into a long cigarette.
- Twist white and red dough together, place on cookie sheet and bend into a candy cane shape.
- Bake 9 min.
- Remove from oven and dust with granulated sugar.
- The first time you make them watch the time as your cookies might be larger or possibly smaller than mine
