Candy Cane Cookies Recipe

  1. My Aunt made these and they are one of my favorite Christmas cookies.
  2. They are delicate in flavor and usually a real winner.
  3. Preheat oven to 375F.
  4. Mix first 5 ingredients together.
  5. Sift flour and salt together.
  6. Stir 1/2 of flour mix into shortening mix.
  7. Work remaining flour into mix with hands till the dough holds together.
  8. Divide dough in half.
  9. Mix 1/2 of dough with red food coloring.
  10. Healthy pinch off a bit of white dough and roll into a long cigarette, healthy pinch off a bit of red dough and roll into a long cigarette.
  11. Twist white and red dough together, place on cookie sheet and bend into a candy cane shape.
  12. Bake 9 min.
  13. Remove from oven and dust with granulated sugar.
  14. The first time you make them watch the time as your cookies might be larger or possibly smaller than mine
