Xiao Kou Zao (Deep-Fried Sesame Balls)

  1. In large mixing bowl, stir together water, sugar, baking soda and baking powder until sugar dissolved.
  2. Add flour and egg, and knead into dough.
  3. Form 20 balls from dough.
  4. Place sesame seeds in flat pan, and set aside.
  5. Moisten balls with water, and roll each in sesame seeds to cover generously.
  6. Heat oil in large wok or deep saucepan.
  7. When heated to 325F, gently place 2 to 3 balls at a time in hot oil.
  8. Deep-fry until golden brown, remove from oil with slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  9. Repeat with remaining dough, and serve.
