Homemade Chicken Soup
- 3 to 3 1/2 lb. whole broiler chicken, skinned
- 1 c. diced celery
- 1 c. diced onions
- 1 qt. frozen green beans or 2 large cans
- 8 carrots, sliced
- 2 cans tomatoes
- 1/4 small head cabbage
- salt and pepper to taste
- 2 ears of corn, cut off cobs
- 1 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1 bay leaf
- 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp. chili powder
- 1/2 pkg. onion soup mix
- 1/2 tsp. oregano
- 2 turnips
- 10 medium potatoes
- 1 c. frozen okra
- Put chicken in large 6-quart boiler with celery, onions and salt and pepper; cook until chicken is done.
- Debone and cut up chicken; return to pot.
- Add carrots, green beans, tomatoes, corn and all seasonings.
- Add potatoes, okra, cabbage and turnips about 30 minutes before soup is done.
- Makes about 6 quarts and can be stored in deep freeze.
