Black And Gold Marble Cake
- 2 sq. unsweetened chocolate
- 3 Tbsp. hot water
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 2/3 c. sugar
- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 c. plus 2 Tbsp. buttermilk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 3 eggs, unbeaten
- Melt chocolate and add hot water and sugar and stir until smooth.
- Combine dry ingredients.
- Stir shortening enough to soften and sift in dry ingredients.
- Add buttermilk and vanilla and mix all until flour is dampened.
- Beat 2 minutes at low speed.
- Add eggs and beat 1 minute.
- Pour half of the batter into a second bowl.
- Add chocolate mixture and blend well.
- Alternate plain and chocolate mixtures and pour all into baking pan.
- With a knife cut through batter once in a wide, zigzag course to marble.
- Bake 30 to 35 minutes at 350u0b0 in a greased and floured oblong pan.
