Chocolate Marble Squares

  1. Over double boiler, combine chocolate bits and cooking oil.
  2. Stir until chocolate melts and mixture is blended; set aside.
  3. Combine shortening, sugars, vanilla and water and beat until creamy.
  4. Add egg and blend.
  5. Sift together the flour, salt and baking powder.
  6. Add to shortening/sugar mixture until blended.
  7. Stir in nuts.
  8. Spread mixture in a greased 13x9x2" pan.
  9. Spoon the melted chocolate over the top; run a knife through the batter to marbleize.
  10. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 14 to 16 minutes.
  11. Cool; cut into 2" squares.
