Chocolate Marble Squares
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 2 teaspoons cooking oil
- 12 cup shortening, softened
- 6 tablespoons sugar
- 6 tablespoons brown sugar, packed
- 12 teaspoon vanilla
- 14 teaspoon water
- 1 egg
- 1 cup flour, and additional
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 12 teaspoon salt
- 12 teaspoon baking soda
- 12 cup nuts, coarsely chopped
- Over double boiler, combine chocolate bits and cooking oil.
- Stir until chocolate melts and mixture is blended; set aside.
- Combine shortening, sugars, vanilla and water and beat until creamy.
- Add egg and blend.
- Sift together the flour, salt and baking powder.
- Add to shortening/sugar mixture until blended.
- Stir in nuts.
- Spread mixture in a greased 13x9x2" pan.
- Spoon the melted chocolate over the top; run a knife through the batter to marbleize.
- Bake in a 375 degree oven for 14 to 16 minutes.
- Cool; cut into 2" squares.
