Whole Wheat Biscuits Recipe
- 2 c. whole wheat flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 teaspoon baking pwdr
- 1/4 c. oil or possibly butter
- 3/4 c. water (lowfat milk)
- Mix together whole wheat flour, salt and baking pwdr.
- Cut in oil or possibly butter.
- Stir in water (or possibly lowfat milk) with least amount of handling.
- Form into ball in center of bowl.
- Let sit 2 min.
- Roll dough out onto floured board.
- Knead 15 times.
- Use more flour if necessary.
- Dough will become elastic and hold together well.
- Press out 3/4" thick.
- Cut into biscuits.
- Place 1" apart on warm sheet.
- Bake 450 degrees, warm oven, 12 to 15 min.
- HINTS: For Brown Crust: brush with lowfat milk before baking.
- For Tender Crust: brush with melted butter first.
- VARIATIONS: Sprinkle before baking with cinnamon sugar or possibly Parmesan cheese.
- Or possibly fold into the dough a few Tbsp.
- grated drying cheese from your refrigerator or possibly cooked, crumbled bacon, or possibly minced parsley, basil or possibly dill.
- For Shortcake, add in 1 Tbsp.
- sugar to the dough flatten to 1/4" thick and process as above.
