Three-Step Salad
- 1/2 c. sliced almonds
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 6 c. romaine lettuce, torn
- 1 11-oz. can mandarin oranges, drained
- 1 c. sliced celery
- 3 green onions, chopped
- 1/2 c. oil
- 1/4 c. vinegar
- 2-3 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. dry mustard
- 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, cook and stir almonds and sugar until almonds are coated and lightly browned, about 4 minutes.
- Spread the almonds on heavy-duty foil to cool; gently break apart.
- In a large salad bowl, combine romaine, oranges, celery and onions.
- Top with almonds.
- In a jar with a tight-fitting lid, combine the oil, vinegar, sugar, salt, dry mustard, and garlic powder; shake well. Pour over the salad and toss gently.
