Sukiyaki(Japan)
- 1 1/2 lb. round steak
- 3 Tbsp. bacon grease
- 1/3 c. soy sauce
- 3 tsp. sugar
- 1 1/2 c. celery, sliced thin in diagonal cuts
- 1 small can bamboo shoots and juice
- 1 large can Chinese mixed vegetables and juice
- 1 (4 oz.) can mushrooms
- Accent
- 2 bunches large green onions, cut in 1-inch lengths (use tops also)
- Slice meat paper thin into 3 or 4-inch long pieces.
- Brown in bacon grease.
- Mix together soy sauce, sugar and water.
- Add to meat.
- Reduce temperature; cook until tender, about 30 or 40 minutes.
- Place vegetables on top of meat; mix together.
- Add Accent according to directions on container.
- Cook 5 minutes, covered.
- Add green onions; toss with meat mixture for 1 minute. Remove from heat.
- Serve over steamed rice.
- Top with broken pieces of watercress (optional).
- Makes 6 servings.
