Creole Chocolate Cake
- 1 c. strong boiling coffee
- 2 1/4 sq. unsweetened chocolate
- 2 5/8 c. cake flour
- 2 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 1/8 tsp. cloves
- 1/2 c. plus 1 Tbsp. shortening
- 3/4 c. sour milk
- 3/4 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 to 3/4 c. unbeaten eggs
- Pour coffee over chocolate.
- Cool.
- Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, soda, salt and cloves.
- Add shortening, cooled chocolate mixture, milk and vanilla.
- Beat two minutes with electric mixer on medium speed.
- Add eggs and beat two more minutes.
- Pour into two 9-inch layer pans.
- Bake at 350u0b0 for 30 to 35 minutes.
- Frost with White Mountain Icing.
