German Style Red Cabbage
- 1 large red cabbage
- 14 cup water
- 12 cup vinegar
- 34 cup sugar
- 1 apple, finely chopped
- 12 cup shortening, I use bacon grease, it just gives a wonderful flavor
- Shred cabbage.
- Bring water, vinegar, sugar to a boil.
- Add cabbage, apple, and shortening.
- Reduce to simmering and cook about one hour.
- Enjoy.
