Chili
- 2 lb. ground chuck
- 1 small onion, cut in half top to bottom, then slice (yields 1/3 c.)
- 1 small jalapeno pepper, quarter lengthwise, then chop fine crossways
- 1/4 c. chopped green pepper
- 15 oz. can Del Monte stewed tomatoes (Mexican recipe)
- 15 oz. can kidney beans
- 15 oz. can tomato sauce
- 8 oz. can tomato sauce (optional; if you prefer thicker, may not need 8 oz. can)
- garlic powder
- chili powder
- dried basil leaves, crushed
- 1 tsp. olive oil
- In large frying pan, brown hamburger; drain off all liquid. Dust hamburger with garlic powder (petty fair dusting).
- Dust hamburger with chili powder (pretty fair dusting).
- Sprinkle on dash of basil, then stir hamburger to mix seasonings well.
- Place in 4 or 5-quart pot.
