BBQ Sloppy Joes
- 2 Tablespoons Butter
- 2- 1/2 pounds Ground Beef
- 2 teaspoons Kosher Salt
- 1/2 whole Large Onion, Diced
- 1 whole Green Bell Pepper, Diced
- 5 cloves Garlic, Minced
- 1- 1/2 cup BBQ Sauce
- 1 cup Water Or Broth
- 2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar
- 2 teaspoons (heaping) Chili Powder
- 1 teaspoon Dry Mustard
- 1 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes (optional)
- 1- 1/2 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
- 8 whole Buns/rolls, For Serving
- Add butter to a large skillet or saute pan set over medium to medium-high heat.
- Add in the ground beef and salt, breaking the meat up as much as possible (I use a potato masherworks great!)
- and cooking until it is no longer pink.
- Add in onions, peppers, and garlic.
- Cook for a few minutes, or until vegetables begin to soften.
- Stir in BBQ sauce, water/broth, brown sugar, chili powder, dry mustard, red pepper flakes (if using) and Worcestershire sauce.
- Re-season to taste with salt and pepper.
- Cover, reduce heat to low and simmer for 20-30 minutes.
- Continue to break mixture apart with the masher, if necessary.
- Taste again and adjust seasonings as needed.
- Add more water/broth or BBQ sauce if things start to dry outyou want plenty of sauce.
- To serve, spread buns/rolls with butter and toast on a griddle or skillet before piling on the meat mixture.
- Top with cheese if you want to take things over the top.
