BBQ Sloppy Joes

  1. Add butter to a large skillet or saute pan set over medium to medium-high heat.
  2. Add in the ground beef and salt, breaking the meat up as much as possible (I use a potato masherworks great!)
  3. and cooking until it is no longer pink.
  4. Add in onions, peppers, and garlic.
  5. Cook for a few minutes, or until vegetables begin to soften.
  6. Stir in BBQ sauce, water/broth, brown sugar, chili powder, dry mustard, red pepper flakes (if using) and Worcestershire sauce.
  7. Re-season to taste with salt and pepper.
  8. Cover, reduce heat to low and simmer for 20-30 minutes.
  9. Continue to break mixture apart with the masher, if necessary.
  10. Taste again and adjust seasonings as needed.
  11. Add more water/broth or BBQ sauce if things start to dry outyou want plenty of sauce.
  12. To serve, spread buns/rolls with butter and toast on a griddle or skillet before piling on the meat mixture.
  13. Top with cheese if you want to take things over the top.
