Date Nut Bread With Rum Sauce Recipe
- 1 pkg. pitted dates
- 2 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 c. boiling water
- 2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. butter
- 2 Large eggs
- 4 c. flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 c. nut meats
- Sprinkle soda on cut up dates; pour boiling water over and set aside.
- Cream butter and sugar; add in Large eggs, then flour, salt, and date mix alternately.
- Add in nuts and vanilla.
- Bake in 5 (#2) cans, well greased, in 325 degrees oven 1 hour.
- Sauce: Mix sugar, cornstarch, and nutmeg.
- Add in water and stir over medium heat till it boils.
- Remove from heat; add in butter and rum.
- Serve over date nut bread.
