Old-Fashioned Popcorn Balls

  1. Place popcorn in large bowl or pan.
  2. In heavy 2-quart saucepan, stir together corn syrup, vinegar, sugar and water. Stirring constantly, cook over medium heat until mixture boils. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until temperature reaches 265u0b0 on candy thermometer, or until small amount of mixture dropped into very cold water forms a ball which is hard enough to hold its shape, yet elastic.
  3. Remove from heat; stir in margarine.
  4. Slowly pour over popcorn, stirring with a long handled spoon.
  5. When cool enough to handle, yet still quite warm, quickly shape into balls. Wrap each individually in plastic wrap.
  6. Makes about ten 3-inch balls.
