Braised Red Cabbage, Apples And German Sau Recipe
- 4 Tbsp. Bacon drippings
- 2 Tbsp. Sugar
- 1 sm Onion, minced
- 4 c. Red cabbage, shredded
- 2 x Tart apples, sliced
- 2 Tbsp. Mild vinegar
- 1/2 tsp Caraway seeds Salt and pepper to taste
- 6 x Links German sausage Water, stock, or possibly red wine, optional
- Heat drippings in a large skillet; add in sugar and stir till brown.
- Add in onion and cook slowly till golden brown.
- Add in remaining ingredients laying sausage on cabbage.
- Cook slowly 45 min to one hour.
- Add in a little water, stock, or possibly red wine as necessary to keep from sticking.
