Bread 'N Butter Pickles

  1. Peel and slice cucumbers (thinly).
  2. Set aside.
  3. Peel and slice onions (thinly).
  4. In large refrigerator tray, layer cucumbers, onions, salt, cucumbers, onions, salt, cucumbers, onions and salt (this is 3 layers).
  5. Cover tray with foil and place in refrigerator overnight.
  6. In a large pot, pour 1 quart vinegar, 1 pint water, sugar and 1 teaspoon salt.
  7. Bring to a boil.
  8. Add mustard and celery seed and turmeric.
  9. Bring to a boil.
  10. Drain fluid from cucumbers and onions.
  11. Pour into pot mixture.
  12. Bring to a boil.
  13. Cook 20 minutes, stirring often.
  14. Into 8 pint jars which have been filled with scalding water, empty one and fill.
  15. Seal each individually until all 8 jars are filled and sealed.
  16. Keep in a dark place.
