Bread 'N Butter Pickles
- 10 cucumbers
- 3 lb. white onions
- 1 qt. white vinegar
- 2 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. celery seed
- 2 Tbsp. mustard seed
- 1 Tbsp. turmeric
- 1 pt. water
- Peel and slice cucumbers (thinly).
- Set aside.
- Peel and slice onions (thinly).
- In large refrigerator tray, layer cucumbers, onions, salt, cucumbers, onions, salt, cucumbers, onions and salt (this is 3 layers).
- Cover tray with foil and place in refrigerator overnight.
- In a large pot, pour 1 quart vinegar, 1 pint water, sugar and 1 teaspoon salt.
- Bring to a boil.
- Add mustard and celery seed and turmeric.
- Bring to a boil.
- Drain fluid from cucumbers and onions.
- Pour into pot mixture.
- Bring to a boil.
- Cook 20 minutes, stirring often.
- Into 8 pint jars which have been filled with scalding water, empty one and fill.
- Seal each individually until all 8 jars are filled and sealed.
- Keep in a dark place.
