Linda's Let's Make Gumdrop Faces
- 1 cup butter or 1 cup margarine
- 1 12 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 egg
- 2 12 cups flour, sifted
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 14 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup small spiced gumdrop, sliced into eyes, nose, mouth and ear shapes (remove black gumdrops)
- Cream butter, confectionary sugar, and vanilla.
- Beat in egg.
- Sift together flour, soda, cream of tartar, and salt.
- Gradually stir into creamed mixture.
- Mix well.
- Shape dough into roll 2 inches in diameter and 12 inches long.
- Wrap in waxed paper.
- Chill several hours or overnight.
- When ready to bake preheat oven to 375.
- Cut into slices 1/4" thick.
- Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
- Shape gum drops into eye, nose, mouth and ear shapes.
- The kids love this part!
- Decorate cookies with gumdrop pieces to make the faces.
- Bake for about 12 minutes, or until lightly browned.
- Cool slightly before removing from pan.
- Place on cookie rack to cool.
