Black Forest Magic Cobbler

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Combine cherries and 1 cup sugar in a saucepan.
  3. Cook over medium heat until sugar dissolves and cherries release their juices, and the liquid thickens slightly.
  4. Remove from heat.
  5. Pour melted butter into a 2-qt baking dish.
  6. Combine remaining sugar, flour, salt, and cocoa.
  7. Stir in milk until well combined.
  8. Do not overbeat.
  9. Pour over butter; do not stir.
  10. Spoon cherries and juice over the batter.
  11. Do not stir.
  12. Bake 35 minutes, or until crust rises to the top and browns.
