Chocolate Fudge Cake
- 1/3 c. shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 2 (2 oz.) sq. unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
- 1 egg
- 1 1/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. water
- 1/2 c. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
- 9 walnut halves
- Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy. Blend in vanilla and cooled chocolate. Add egg, well beaten. Stir together flour, baking powder and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with water, beating after each addition. Spread batter in greased and lightly floured 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan. Sprinkle with chocolate pieces. Arrange walnut halves over top.
- Bake at 350u0b0 about 30 minutes or until cake springs back when touched in center. Cool in pan.
