Nana's Butter Biscuits

  1. Preheat oven to 450F.
  2. Sift flour, baking powder, salt, cream of tartar and sugar in medium bowl.
  3. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add milk; stir with fork or spatula until soft dough forms.
  5. Place on lightly floured surface; knead 8 to 10 times or until smooth.
  6. Pat dough lightly into 1-inch thick circle.
  7. Cut with floured 2-inch cookie cutter to make 8 biscuits.
  8. Place on ungreased baking sheet.
  9. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
