Butter Fingers(Christmas Cookies)
- 1 1/2 sticks butter
- 1/4 c. white sugar or 9 tsp. xxxx sugar
- 1 c. black walnuts or blanched almonds
- 2 tsp. cold water
- 2 c. flour (plain), sifted
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- dash of salt
- Cream sugar and butter well.
- Add vanilla; grind the nuts and add to this.
- Add the cold water, then the flour and salt.
- Knead thoroughly.
- Roll small amount at a time by hand in a roll the size of your finger, cut in pieces about an inch long.
- Cook in preheated oven at 300u0b0.
- Cook until light brown, about half an hour, depending on your oven.
- When cool, dust cookies with powdered sugar.
- Make only one batch at a time.
- When cool, store in a tight can lined with wax paper.
- These keep a long time and the flavor improves with age.
- Yields 24.
