Alice'S Country Steak

  1. Mix flour, seasoning salt and pepper and pound into sides of meat.
  2. (I prefer it cut into serving size pieces.)
  3. Brown onion in 2 tablespoons shortening in heavy skillet or Dutch oven.
  4. Remove; drain on paper toweling and set aside.
  5. Add remaining shortening to skillet and brown meat slowly on both sides.
  6. Add remaining ingredients; cover tightly and bring to boil.
  7. Reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour.
  8. Uncover and add browned onion; cover again and cook until tender, about 1 hour more.
  9. Skim sauce to remove excess fat.
  10. If sauce seems too thick, thin to desired consistency. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  11. Serves 4 to 6.
