- 1/2 cups Water
- 1 whole Medium Onion
- 64 ounces, fluid Campbell's Tomato Juice
- 12 ounces, fluid Tomato Paste
- Oregano, to taste
- Black Pepper To Taste
- Garlic Powder, To Taste
- 1.
- Put the sweet Italian sausage in a skillet with the water.
- Cover and cook on medium-low heat for 10 minutes.
- After 10 minutes, turn the sausage over and cook for another 10 minutes uncovered after poking a few holes in the sausages.
- 2.
- While the sausage is cooking, cut the ends off the onion, but that is it.
- Add the whole onion into the sauce.
- 3.
- Pour the tomato juice into a large pot and then stir in the tomato paste.
- 4.
- Stir in oregano, black pepper and garlic powder to taste.
- I usually start with a tablespoon of oregano and garlic powder, 1/2 tablespoon of black pepper, and then adjust while cooking.
- 5.
- Once the sausage is done cooking, add it to the sauce.
- 6.
- Simmer for an hour and then store in the fridge until the next day.
- 7.
- The next day, heat the sauce on low for 2-3 hours.
- This makes enough for 2 dinners.
- We usually refrigerate or freeze the remaining sauce and add more sausage to it the next week.
- The sweet Italian sausage makes this sauce amazing and it is really good served with a salad and crusty bread.
