Cabbage Burger Bake
- 1 head (about 2-lb Head) Cabbage
- 6 slices Bacon
- 1/2 cups Chopped Onion
- 1 cup Uncooked Rice
- 1 pound Ground Beef
- 1/2 pounds Ground Pork
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 18 teaspoons Pepper
- 15 ounces, fluid Spaghetti Sauce, With Mushrooms
- 3 cups Water
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Quarter and shred cabbage.
- Spread in a buttered shallow 12-cup baking dish.
- Saute bacon in a large frying pan, just until fat starts to cook out; remove; drain and set aside for later.
- Stir onion and rice into bacon drippings in the frying pan.
- Cook, stirring constantly, over medium heat, until onion is soft and rice is lightly browned.
- Spoon over the cabbage in the baking dish.
- Brown beef and pork in the same frying pan.
- Spoon over the rice mixture in the baking dish; sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Heat spaghetti sauce with the water to boiling in the same frying pan.
- Pour slowly over cabbage, so sauce will seep into layers underneath.
- Top with bacon slices; cover with foil.
- Bake for 50 minutes, or until rice and cabbage are tender.
- Uncover; bake for 10 minutes longer to crisp bacon.
