Crisco® Hush Puppies
- Crisco Pure Peanut Oil
- 1 1/2 cups Martha White(R) Plain Enriched Yellow Corn Meal
- 2/3 cup Pillsbury BEST All Purpose Flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 2 green onions finely chopped
- HEAT 2 to 3 inches oil to 360u0b0F in a deep fryer or heavy deep saucepan.
- COMBINE cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, onion powder and sugar in medium bowl. Add buttermilk, eggs and onions. Mix well.
- DROP batter by tablespoonfuls into hot oil. Fry a few hush puppies at a time, 5 to 6 minutes, or until deep golden brown. Remove with slotted spoon. Drain on paper towels. Keep warm. Repeat with remaining batter. Serve immediately.
