My Own Beef Stroganoff
- 2 1/2 lb. sirloin (or any steak) 1/2-inch thick
- 1 large or 2 medium onions (chopped fine)
- 1 large can or 3/4 lb. sliced mushrooms (dried)
- 1 1/2 cloves garlic (crushed)
- 3/4 c. butter
- 1 to 1 1/2 cans beef consomme (undiluted)
- 1 to 1 1/2 pt. sour cream
- 3/4 to 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1 tsp. paprika
- 2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 2 c. seasoned flour (salt, pepper, garlic salt, lemon pepper, self-rising flour to taste)
- Beat steak with cola bottle top on both sides.
- Cut steak in thin strips; dredge in seasoned flour.
- Saute onions, mushrooms and garlic in 1/2 cup butter about 4 minutes.
- Add remaining butter and meat, cook for about 3 more minutes (stirring continuously). Remove from heat and remove steak and vegetables.
- Pour all but about 6 tablespoons of drippings in cup.
- Add 3 tablespoons of flour and mix with drippings left in pan.
- Add consomme.
- Stir until thick but smooth.
- Add sour cream, salt, pepper and paprika and Worcestershire sauce.
- Stir and cook on medium-low heat until well blended.
- Add meat and vegetables and serve over rice, egg noodles or toast.
