Martha Washington'S Cherry Crunch

  1. Drain cherries, reserving 1/2 cup juice. Mix cherry juice and tapioca and let stand 15 minutes.
  2. Melt butter in large bowl and mix in brown sugar, flour, baking powder, soda, salt, and oatmeal to create pastry mixture.
  3. Put half of pastry mixture into a greased 9x9 or 11x7 baking pan, and scatter over it the cherries and juice mixture. Cover the fruit with the other half of the pastry mixture.
  4. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until light brown.
  5. Extra delicious with whipped topping or vanilla ice cream.
