Marble Cake

  1. Preheat the oven to 350u0b0F. Lightly grease and line a deep 8-inch round cake pan with parchment paper.
  2. Beat butter, granulated sugar and vanilla extract in a large bowl with an electric mixer until pale and creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Fold in flour alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour. Divide batter among 3 bowls. Mix cocoa with 2 tbsp boiling water in a fourth bowl until smooth. Add to 1 bowl of batter and mix well. Stir a few drops of red food color into another bowl of batter.
  3. Drop large tablespoons of each color of batter, alternating white, brown and pink, into prepared pan. Run a knife through to marble the batter.
  4. Bake for 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Cool in pan for 5 mins. Remove from pan; cool completely on a wire rack.
  5. For the buttercream, beat butter in large bowl with electric mixer until light. Beat in 1 cup of the powdered sugar and milk, then remaining sugar. Mix in a little red food color. Spread buttercream over top and sides of cake. Decorate with sprinkles.
