Savory Italian Sausage Pie
- 1 Classic Crisco Pie Crust double crust
- 1 pound ground Italian sausage
- 1 cup sweet onion chopped
- 1 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 cup pizza sauce
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- PREPARE pie crust recipe according to directions. Heat oven to 400u0b0F.
- COOK sausage in large skillet over medium-high heat until browned. Remove sausage from skillet with slotted spoon. Add onions, peppers and garlic to skillet. Cook over medium heat 4 to 5 minutes or until tender. Remove from heat. Fold in sausage and cheese.
- ROLL larger disk for bottom crust. Place in 9-inch pie plate. Fill unbaked pie crust with sausage filling. Top evenly with pizza sauce. Roll out smaller dough disk. Transfer dough carefully onto filled pie. Trim edges of dough leaving a 3/4-inch overhang. Fold top edge under bottom crust. Press edges together to seal and flute, as desired. Cut slits in top crust or prick with fork to vent steam. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning, if desired.
- BAKE 40 to 45 minutes or until golden brown. Cool 10 minutes.
