Spiced Beef Pirozhki
- 1/2 pound ground beef
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 8 ounces water chestnuts can sliced, drained and finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds toasted
- 2 spring onions finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic crushed
- 1 teaspoon chinese five spice powder
- 1 large egg lightly beaten
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 3 sheets frozen puff pastry thawed
- 1 red chili pepper small, thinly sliced
- Preheat oven to 425u0b0F. Grease and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. For the filling, combine beef, flour, water chestnut, sesame seeds, onion, garlic, five-spice powder, egg and 2 tbsp soy sauce in a medium bowl. Mix well and divide into 12 portions.
- To assemble, cut each pastry sheet into 4 squares. Place 1 portion of the filling in the center of each square, gather pastry around filing and pinch to enclose and form a bag. Place on prepared baking sheet and bake for 18-20 mins or until puffed and golden.
- For the dipping sauce, mix together the remaining soy sauce and chili pepper. Serve with the pirozhki.
