Apple Marzipan Bars
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup 2% milk warmed
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup butter melted
- 1 egg beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 7 ounces almond paste grated
- 2 tablespoons sour cream
- 2 tablespoons almond liqueur
- 4 apples cored, thinly sliced then tossed with lemon juice
- 1 lemon juiced
- Combine flour and sugar in a bowl. Make a well in the center. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm milk then pour into flour and stir until combined. Cover and let proof for 15 mins. Add butter, beaten egg, remaining milk and vanilla extract. Knead until smooth and elastic. Cover and let proof for 30 mins.
- Preheat oven to 400u0b0F. Knead dough on a floured surface and roll out into a 13x15 inch rectangle. Place on a greased baking tray, cover, and let proof for 20 mins.
- Meanwhile, beat almond paste, sour cream and liqueur until thick and smooth. Spread over dough. Arrange apple slices on top and brush with lemon juice. Bake for 18-20 mins. Let cool then slice and serve.
