Apple-Spice Upside Down Cake
- 2 Honey crisp apples peeled and thinly sliced
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup brown sugar packed
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 box spice Duncan Hines cake prepared as per instructions
- Butter the bottom and sides of a glass 9x12 pan
- Arrange apples in bottom, I made 2 layers alternating the angle, and sprinkle with cinnamon lightly.
- Melt the topping ingredient together over medium heat until the sugars dissolve, but bot to a boiling point, whipping nearly constantly so sugars make a Carmel like mixture .
- It will be smooth, then immediately pour over the apples evenly. ( be aware of the area needed to be covered as you can not spread the Carmel)
- Make the cake as instructions and pour over apple/ carmel layer.
- Bake as per box 350 degree, for 30-35 min.( no .longer) top will look dry, but not to worry
- Place on cooling rack, for about 10-15 min, to set, then place serving tray,
- I used a glass 10x14 and held both together and inverted cake onto serving plate.
- Scrape any remaining carmel onto the now "top" pf cake . Serve with a dollop of cream .....super delicious the next day cooled... The carmel saturates the cake & soooo moist:)
