Cherry Divinity Cake
- 3 c. Swans Down flour
- 3 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 c. whipped butter
- 1/2 c. Crisco
- 5 eggs
- 1 c. milk
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla
- 2 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. white Karo syrup
- 1/2 c. water
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- pinch of salt
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. nuts
- 2 egg whites
- 1 large bottle cherries
- Mix first eight ingredients and bake at 350u0b0 until done; makes 5 layers.
- Cook sugar, syrup, water and salt until it will spin a good thread.
- Pour half of mixture over stiffly beaten egg whites to which baking powder has been added.
- Beat until mixture loses its gloss.
- Add remaining syrup mixture and again.
- Add chopped nuts, vanilla and cherries.
- Mix and spread on cake layers.
