Orange Slice Cake
- 1 cup butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 pound gumdrops large -- Orange slices
- 14 ounces dates diced
- 2 cups nuts chopped
- 1 cup coconut flaked
- 4 cups flour unsifted
- 1 cup orange juice
- 1 cup powdered sugar unsifted
- In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until well blended; add eggs and mix well. Add soda to buttermilk in a small bowl; stir into first mixture.
- Add flour, mix well and add remaining ingredients; mix well. Pour into a prepared 9 x 13 inch baking pan. Bake 2 hours at 300 degrees F. Place a pan of water in oven until last 45 minutes to keep cake moist. When cake comes out of oven, mix orange juice and powdered sugar in a small bowl. While cake is hot, pour orange juice & powdered sugar mixture over cake and let stand overnight to cool and set. RF4RP
