Vanillekipferl (Austrian Vanilla Croissants)

  1. Preheat oven to 170 degrees Celsius.
  2. With an electric mixer, in medium bowl, beat butter, sugar, vanilla extract, and granulated sugar.
  3. Add ground walnuts, flour and orange zest.
  4. Beat until smooth.
  5. Wrap in a plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours.
  6. Divide the dough into small balls and roll them into 2.5 cm cylinders to form small croissants.
  7. Arrange them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes.
  9. Once out of the oven, carefully roll them on a mixture of icing sugar and granulated sugar.
