Dad'S Spaghetti Sauce
- 1 onion large, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper medium, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 pound ground beef or mild Italian sausage, one of each if making a double recipe
- 1 quart tomatoes
- 1 quart spaghetti sauce commercial
- 1/2 cup Burgundy wine
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- salt to taste
- Saute the green pepper and onion in the olive oil over medium heat for five minutes. Add the garlic and saute two minutes more. Add the ground beef and cook, stirring periodically, until browned and well broken up. Add the tomatoes and wine. Bring back to a boil, reduce heat and cook down for five minutes. Add the spaghetti sauce, Italian seasoning and black pepper. Stir well. Bring up to a low simmer, uncovered. Stir occasionally while you start your pasta water to boiling. Season with salt just before serving.
