Chili-Cheesy Moose Steak
- 2 lb. (1 pkg) moose steak, round or chuck (1-inch or 2.5 cm thick)
- 3 Tbsp. (45 mL) flour
- 2 tsp. (10 mL) salt
- 2 tsp. (10mL) chili powder
- dash of pepper
- 1 c. (240 mL) shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
- 1/4 c. (60 mL) shortening or melted butter
- 2 c. (480 mL) chopped onions
- 1 can (1 lb. or 456g) tomatoes
- Cut moose into serving sized pieces.
- Combine flour, salt, chili powder and pepper.
- Pound into meat on both sides.
- Brown well in hot shortening.
- Remove from pan and brown onions in drippings.
- Spoon onions into large casserole and arrange steak pieces on top, then undrained tomatoes.
- Cover and bake 1 to 1 1/2 hours (or until meat is tender) at 350u0b0 (175u0b0 C).
- Sprinkle with grated cheese and heat 5 minutes longer to melt cheese.
- Serves 6.
