Pinwheel Cookies

  1. Combine the sugar with diced butter.
  2. In separate bowl mix flour, baking powder and salt
  3. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture.
  4. Add the vanilla and process until the mixture just forms a ball.
  5. Divide the dough into 2 equal portions.
  6. Add the food coloring to one portion and process until just incorporated. If the batter is too sticky you can add more flour.
  7. Roll out each portion of dough. You need 2 rectangles ( 1/8 - 1/4 inch thick).
  8. Place the turquoise dough on top of the natural one.
  9. Beginning on one edge, roll the doughs to make a log so the two colors spiral inside each other.
  10. Wrap the log in plastic wrap and refrigerate until firm enough to slice.
  11. Preheat oven to 325u0b0F .
  12. Slice the log into 1/8 inch (3 mm) thick cookies, and place on prepared baking sheets.
  13. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes.
  14. Remove from oven, and cool on racks.
