Empanadas

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 Celsius.
  2. Mix the flour, sugar, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and salt together in a large bowl.
  3. Add the lard and butter together and mix with the fingertips to form a crumbly mixture.
  4. Mix the milk with the vanilla and add to the mixture. Gather the dough together into a ball.
  5. Divide the dough into 3 equal portions, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  6. Remove 1 portion from the refrigerator and roll out on a floured surface. Cut the empanada shapes with a circular cutter and fill.
  7. Pinch the edges together and place onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with beaten egg.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes, until the edges are golden.
